At ratemyflat, we believe that transparency in the rental market should not come at the cost of your personal privacy. We have built our platform to ensure that you can share honest feedback without fear of repercussion.

How we anonymise reviews

When you share a review for a home, we take several steps to protect your identity:
  • No names: Your name and email address are never displayed on the public review.
  • No exact dates: We do not publish the specific dates of your tenancy, as these could be used to identify you through landlord records.
  • Private account: Your profile is private. Other users cannot see a list of all the homes you have reviewed.

What information we collect and why

We collect a limited amount of information to keep our data honest and your identity private:
  • Account details: We require a verified email address to prevent spam and ensure that each review comes from a real person.
  • Verification documents: When you verify a tenancy or ownership, you upload documents like tenancy agreements or records of title.
  • Review data: We collect your ratings and comments to calculate the Healthy Homes Score and provide insights to other users.
What we never share with landlords: We do not share your identity, your contact details, or confirmation of whether you specifically left a review. Landlords and Property Managers see the same anonymised reviews that the public sees.

Why verification is encouraged

You might wonder why we ask for documents if we promise anonymity. The reason is simple: it prevents fake reviews. By having a verification team review documents privately, we can guarantee to the community that a review is based on a real experience, without ever having to make your personal details public.

Data Security

Your uploaded documents are used solely for the purpose of verification. They are stored securely and are only accessible by the ratemyflat verification team for the purpose of confirming your relationship to a home. For more detailed information on how we handle your data, you can view our full Privacy Policy.
If you have questions about a specific piece of data or want to request the removal of your account, please contact our support team at the help centre.
