Listings show the home at its best. Photos are staged. Compliance is self-certified. ratemyflat is built so you can see what previous tenants actually found before you sign — and check the home against the five Healthy Homes Standards.

How to find a home

Use the search bar on the home page to look up any residential home in Aotearoa.
  • By address: The street number and name returns the most accurate result. Search is powered by LINZ (Land Information New Zealand) data, so every home is mapped to a real legal address.
  • By suburb or city: Browsing a new neighbourhood? Search by area to see homes with existing reviews or scores in that location.

Understanding the home profile

Every home has its own page. That page brings together what’s known about the home’s condition and the experience of past tenants.

Healthy Homes Score

The Healthy Homes Score is a measure of how well a rental meets the five legislated standards: heating, insulation, ventilation, moisture and drainage, and draught stopping. The profile shows a summary and how the home performs in each category.

Tenant reviews

Reviews come from people who have lived in the home. They cover heating, ventilation, insulation, draughts, and moisture — alongside what day-to-day life was like and the feel of the neighbourhood.

Home detail panels

Public panels show core facts: bedrooms, bathrooms, location. If the home has been claimed by a verified owner or property manager, you may also see additional photos and documents they’ve chosen to share.

Accessing insights

  • Visitors: Anyone can view the Healthy Homes Score and read tenant reviews without signing in.
  • Signed-in users: A free account lets you contribute reviews and verify the homes you’ve lived in.

The public view toggle

If you’ve already reviewed a home (as a tenant) or you’re a verified owner, the home’s page opens in a “Private View” with extra management tools. To see exactly what the public sees, click Public View — this appends ?show_public=true to the URL and shows the profile as a standard visitor would.
